OA Trips & Adventures

Outdoor Adventures provides a variety of outdoor trips, from day trips/clinics to weekend and week adventures, to the University of Utah community. Participants can expect to see activities such as rock climbing, canyoneering, mountain biking, backpacking, hiking, cross-country skiing, backcountry touring, ice climbing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, flatwater trips such as canoeing or SUPing, and much more. The trip leaders are in constant training to provide a safe and positive learning environment where students can develop their outdoor skills. 

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AND TRIPS ARE ONLY FOR UNIVERSITY OF UTAH STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF, CAMPUS REC MEMBERS, AND THEIR GUESTS. TRIPS ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

Little Cottonwood Backcountry Ski Tour
February 9  |  $50.00

Strap on some skis and join Outdoor Adventures as we take a day to ski through pristine trails in Little Cottonwood Canyon. We’ll show you the trails and show you the beauty of taking a day off from the resorts! Trip includes transportation, equipment, instruction and meals. Pre-trip meeting is Thursday, February 7that 6:00 p.m. in The Hub.

Desert Backpacking Weekend Trip
February 22 - 24  |  $100.00

Walk through the beautiful southern Utah desert and escape the city scene with Outdoor Adventures this weekend! We’ll see gorgeous sandstone formations and the night sky unlike in any other setting. Trip includes transportation, equipment, instruction and meals. Pre-trip meeting is Tuesday, February 21stat 5:00 p.m. in OA.

Bloomington Yurt Backcountry Ski & Snowboard Weekend Trip
March 1 - 3  |  $180.00

Come backcountry skiing and snowboarding at Bloomington Canyon Yurt in Bear Lake, Idaho. Spend the weekend surrounded by mountains, skiing uphill, getting fresh turns, and eating delicious food among great company. If you have never been camping in a yurt and love skiing or snowboarding this trip is perfect for you! Trip includes transportation, equipment, instruction and meals. Cedar Mesa Backpacking Weekend Trip
March 1 - 3  |  $90.00

Join us for a weekend backpacking trip on the Fish-Owl Loop in Cedar Mesa! The terrain is moderate, so this trip is well suited to all skill levels. The loop boasts some incredible scenery around Bears Ears National Monument. Trip includes transportation, equipment, instruction and meals. Pre-trip meeting is Tuesday, February 26that 5:00 p.m. in OA.

Moab Multi-Sport Weekend Trip
March 22 - 24  |  $155.00

Do you like to climb? What about bike? Do you want to try rafting for a day? If any of this sounds like you, then join us as we host a Moab Multi-Sport weekend! This weekend will include a multitude of sports with amazing scenery of Moab red rock! Exact sports will be decided as a group with the trip leaders. Trip includes transportation, equipment, instruction and meals. Pre-trip meeting is Tuesday, March 19that 5:00 p.m. in The Hub.

Coyote Gulch Backpacking Weekend

Coyote Gulch is a famous canyon in Grand Staircase Escalante featuring beautiful red rock, arches, and waterfalls. Join us on a 20 mile backpack to experience Southern Utah’s natural beauty, camp under the stars, and make some rad new friends! Trip includes transportation, equipment, instruction, and meals. Bikepacking Bears Ears
March 29 - 31  |  $130.00

You've heard a lot about Bear's Ears, but you've never seen it? Join us as we take our backpacking on the trails with bikes! Bikepacking is all about the adventure and our mechanical advantage. Come see all that Bear's Ears has to offer while enjoying new company.  Trip includes transportation, equipment, instruction, and meals. Pre-trip meeting is Thursday, March 28that 5:00 p.m. in OA.

Green River Daily Kayaking Weekend Trip
April 5 - 7  |  $135.00

Join us on a kayaking day trip down a beautiful stretch of the Green River as the spring runoff begins. The Daily stretch winds 4-8 miles through a sunbaked sandstone canyon with 5 fun and exciting rapids ranging from class II-III. Trip includes transportation, equipment, instruction and meals. Pre-trip meetings are TBD and will include two kayak roll clinics in the pool.

Moab Bike & Camp Weekend Trip
April 12 - 14  |  $120.00

Come check out some classic southern Utah mountain biking on this weekend trip. The trails wind through incredible scenery, dramatic slick rock, and gorgeous views of snowcapped mountains in the distance. We will be biking world class trails during the day and camping in awesome sites at night, so reserve your spot today! Trip includes transportation, equipment, instruction and meals. Pre-trip meeting is Tuesday, April 9that 5:00 p.m. in The Hub.

Our programs are available to all current University of Utah Students, Faculty, Staff, Campus Rec Member, and their guests. These trips are not open to the General Public, unless they qualify as a guest.

Call us at 801-581-8516 and pay the deposit with a credit card over the phone, or come to see us during our office hours within the Student Life Center.

Cooperative Adventure trips are planned and coordinated by Outdoor Adventures volunteer trip leaders. Trip costs are shared equally by all participants. All group planning, leadership and risks are shared by all participants equally.  Because Outdoor Adventures trips are exciting, physically demanding, and take place in an environment over which we have no control, they can be potentially dangerous. As a participant on a Cooperative Adventure Trip, you must personally accept these conditions and assume full responsibility for your own safety and well-being. Trip size is limited, and registration plus payment is on a first come, first served basis. A non-refundable deposit is required when you sign-up to secure a spot for you. Each multi-day trip has a pre-trip meeting, and your attendance is strongly recommended.

University of Utah policies prohibit alcohol, controlled substances, and firearms. These items are not permitted on any OA Adventure. Participants are not required to have health insurance, but it is strongly encouraged.
