OA Trips & Adventures

Outdoor Adventures provides a variety of outdoor trips, from day trips/clinics to weekend and week adventures, to the University of Utah community. Participants can expect to see activities such as rock climbing, canyoneering, mountain biking, backpacking, hiking, cross-country skiing, backcountry touring, ice climbing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, flatwater trips such as canoeing or SUPing, and much more. The trip leaders are in constant training to provide a safe and positive learning environment where students can develop their outdoor skills. 

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AND TRIPS ARE ONLY FOR UNIVERSITY OF UTAH STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF, CAMPUS REC MEMBERS, AND THEIR GUESTS. TRIPS ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

September 14-16 Bears Ears Backpacking $105.00

Join us as we backpack through time in the Bears Ears!  We will be carrying heavy packs on this adventure so you need to be fit.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.

September 15 Weber River Float $30.00

Let's go paddle the Weber River!  We will paddle inflatable kayaks along this class 2 stretch of river.  Participants must be able to swim and feel comfortable in moving water. Come prepared to get wet. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and a waterbottle, along with a change of clothes for the drive home.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, equipment and a snack.

September 21-23 Women's Wind River Backpacking $75.00

Fall is a great time to explore the Wind River Range in Wyoming.  Prior backpacking experience is preferred.  We will be hiking high altitudes with heavy packs.  Trip  includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.  This trip is catered to and intended for women, but we will not exclude anyone.

September 21-23 Snake River Rafting $125.00

Fall rafting on the Snake River is amazing!  Join us for this classic paddling adventure through the rapids of Alpine Canyon.  Participants must be able to swim and feel comfortable in moving water.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.

September 29 Hike & Hammock $15.00

Is school stressing you out? Well, come with us on a scenic hike to Lake Catherine where we will set up some hammocks and relax in the fresh air.  Participants must be able to hike a steep, strenuous trail and can't be afraid of heights.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, and hammocks.

October 6-12 Confluence Packrafting $225.00

Want an adventure?  Come with us as we backpack to the Colorado River, paddle some clam water sections in Pack-Rafts and then backpack out!  Participants must be fit and able to carry heavy packs, and must be able to swim.  Trip inlcudeds leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.

October 8-12 Cataract Canyon Rafting $295.00

Join us for the famous scenery and wild rapids of Cataract Canyon.  This is an epic rafting adventure for fall break.  Participants must be able to swim and feel comfortable in moving water.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.

October 12-14 Wasatch Climb & Camp $70.00

Let's head up into Big Cottonwood Canyon to camp out and do some rock climbing. No experience necessary.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.

October 19-12 City of Rocks Climbing $70.00

City of Rocks Natural Reserve is a unique place to explore. We will spend the weekend camping and climbing.  No experience necessary.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.

October 19-21 Llama Packing in the Uintas $100.00

Join us for a weekend in the beautiful Uinta Mountains with some llama friends!  The llamas will carry some of our food and supplies so we won't have to carry as much and can hike further!  Trip includes leadership, llamas, transportation, most meals and equipment.

October 26-28 Neon Canyon Canyoneering/Backpacking $125.00
Neon Canyon is a stunning place near Escalante, Utah.  It is well known for the rappel through the Golden Cathedral! We will backpack in before running the canyon, so participants should be fit and ready to hike with full backpacks!  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.

November 2-4

Robber's Roost Canyoneering $140.00

Join us for some canyoneering in Southern Utah's pleasantly cool off-season.  Robber's Roost is home to some of the most beautiful canyons in the state.  The hike includes deep, twisting narrows and thrilling downclimbs.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.

November 2-4

Bryce National Park Photo Camp & Hike $90.00

Enjoy a weekend of camping and hiking in Bryce Canyon while practicing and learning new photography skills.  Enjoy landscape photography and astro-photography while on hikes and in camp.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.  NOTE: Personal camera equipment is not included.

November 9-11

Women's Moab Rock Climbing $90.00
 Come climb with some awesome women!  Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, we're gonna have a great time galavanting on the rock walls of Moab.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.  This trip is catered to and intended for women, but we will not exclude anyone.

November 16-18

Capitol Reef Backpacking $100.00

Experience backpacking through a slot canyon in beautiful Capitol Reef, one of Utah's least explored parks.  See towering desert landscapes and enjoy the best camping the desert has to offer.  Participants must be fit and able to carry full packs.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, most meals and equipment.

Our programs are available to all current University of Utah Students, Faculty, Staff, Campus Rec Member, and their guests. These trips are not open to the General Public, unless they qualify as a guest.

Call us at 801-581-8516 and pay the deposit with a credit card over the phone, or come to see us during our office hours within the Student Life Center.

Cooperative Adventure trips are planned and coordinated by Outdoor Adventures volunteer trip leaders. Trip costs are shared equally by all participants. All group planning, leadership and risks are shared by all participants equally.  Because Outdoor Adventures trips are exciting, physically demanding, and take place in an environment over which we have no control, they can be potentially dangerous. As a participant on a Cooperative Adventure Trip, you must personally accept these conditions and assume full responsibility for your own safety and well-being. Trip size is limited, and registration plus payment is on a first come, first served basis. A non-refundable deposit is required when you sign-up to secure a spot for you. Each multi-day trip has a pre-trip meeting, and your attendance is strongly recommended.

University of Utah policies prohibit alcohol, controlled substances, and firearms. These items are not permitted on any OA Adventure. Participants are not required to have health insurance, but it is strongly encouraged.
