OA Trips & Adventures

Outdoor Adventures provides a variety of outdoor trips, from day trips/clinics to weekend and week adventures, to the University of Utah community. Participants can expect to see activities such as rock climbing, canyoneering, mountain biking, backpacking, hiking, cross-country skiing, backcountry touring, ice climbing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, flatwater trips such as canoeing or SUPing, and much more. The trip leaders are in constant training to provide a safe and positive learning environment where students can develop their outdoor skills. 

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AND TRIPS ARE ONLY FOR UNIVERSITY OF UTAH STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF, CAMPUS REC MEMBERS, AND THEIR GUESTS. TRIPS ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

Sept. 13-15  Snake River Rafting & Hiking Multi-Sport Trip  The mighty Snake River wraps and hisses its way through Jackson, Wyoming with the Grand Teton National Park as a background. Join Outdoor Adventures as we try to tame this beast of a river. All participants must be able to swim and feel comfortable in moving water. Trip includes leadership, transportation, equipment and meals. $100
Sept. 20-22 Sea Kayaking the Tetons  Traverse great distances and explore otherwise unreachable locations gliding through the serene and invigorating waters of Grand Teton national park. Participants will be in single person sea kayaks following guides on flatwater. Trip includes leadership, transportation, equipment and meals. $110

Oct. 5-11 Backpacking Paria Canyon Fall Break Trip  Join Outdoor Adventures as we traverse the gorgeous expanse of the Paria Canyon Wilderness Area. Noted for some of the nation’s best slot canyons, we will backpack 30+ miles from Utah into Arizona. The red rock will surround us as we take in the amazing scenery, the lush desert life, and some beautiful solitude. Trip includes leadership, transportation, equipment and meals.   $300
Oct. 6-12 Raft Cataract Canyon Fall Break Trip  Spend your fall break in Canyonlands National Park with Outdoor Adventures as we raft some big whitewater and float through some beautiful desert landscapes. This week long trip will give you the opportunity to relax and forget about the stress of your busy semester. Cataract Canyon is a classic OA trip that you don't want to miss out on. Trip includes leadership, transportation, equipment and meals.  $300
Oct. 13 Bouldering in Little Cottonwood Canyon  It’s time to get out climbing in the Wasatch! Join us for a climbing trip in the mountains! We’re so happy that right outside our campus are some of the coolest crags to get some vertical feet in. Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment.  $25
Oct. 18-20 Mountain Biking the Gooseberry Mesa  Come ride the beautiful slick-rock Mesa right outside of St. George with us! The riding is technical slick-rock and single-track. It winds through the beautiful sea of red rock, past low bushes of sage, and through some of the best scenery a mountain biker can ask for! Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment.  $125
Oct. 18-20 Robbers Roost Canyoneering  Come ride the beautiful slick-rock Mesa right outside of St. George with us! The riding is technical slick-rock and single-track. Oct. 22 Waterfall Day Hike  Join Outdoor Adventures for a day hike in Big Cottonwood Canyon up to Donut Falls. Trip includes leadership, transportation, equipment and lunch.    $15
Nov. 12 Full Moon Living Room Hike  Hike to the famous Living Room! Located right next to campus, the Living Room boasts some incredible views of Salt Lake City and is a great hike to bask in the month’s full moon. Trip includes leadership, transportation, equipment and a snack.   $15

 

Our programs are available to all current University of Utah Students, Faculty, Staff, Campus Rec Member, and their guests. These trips are not open to the General Public, unless they qualify as a guest.

Call us at 801-581-8516 and pay the deposit with a credit card over the phone, or come to see us during our office hours within the Student Life Center.

Cooperative Adventure trips are planned and coordinated by Outdoor Adventures volunteer trip leaders. Trip costs are shared equally by all participants. All group planning, leadership and risks are shared by all participants equally.  Because Outdoor Adventures trips are exciting, physically demanding, and take place in an environment over which we have no control, they can be potentially dangerous. As a participant on a Cooperative Adventure Trip, you must personally accept these conditions and assume full responsibility for your own safety and well-being. Trip size is limited, and registration plus payment is on a first come, first served basis. A non-refundable deposit is required when you sign-up to secure a spot for you. Each multi-day trip has a pre-trip meeting, and your attendance is strongly recommended.

University of Utah policies prohibit alcohol, controlled substances, and firearms. These items are not permitted on any OA Adventure. Participants are not required to have health insurance, but it is strongly encouraged.
