OA Trips & Adventures

Outdoor Adventures provides a variety of outdoor trips, from day trips/clinics to weekend and week adventures, to the University of Utah community. Participants can expect to see activities such as rock climbing, canyoneering, mountain biking, backpacking, hiking, cross-country skiing, backcountry touring, ice climbing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, flatwater trips such as canoeing or SUPing, and much more. The trip leaders are in constant training to provide a safe and positive learning environment where students can develop their outdoor skills. 

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AND TRIPS ARE ONLY FOR UNIVERSITY OF UTAH STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF, CAMPUS REC MEMBERS, AND THEIR GUESTS. TRIPS ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

Neon Canyon Canyoneering Neon Canyon is a stunning place near Escalante, Utah.  It is well known for the rappel through the Golden Cathedral! We will backpack in before running the canyon, so participants should be fit and ready to hike with full backpacks!  Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment. $125
June 14 Bike the Jordan River Greenway Day Trip The Jordan River Parkway spans 45 miles of bike path that winds its way parallel to the Jordan River. Remove yourself from the busy day to day of the city and enjoy the parkway and all of its lush greenery. This relaxed ride will cover some portion of the parkway. Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment. Participants must know how to ride a bike and be comfortable riding for extended periods of time. $35
June 15 Weber River Float Day Trip Lets go paddle the Weber River!  We will paddle inflatable kayaks along this class 2 stretch of river.  Participants must be able to swim and feel comfortable in moving water. Come prepared to get wet. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and a waterbottle, along with a change of clothes for the drive home.  Trip includes leadership, transportation, equipment and a snack. $35
June 20 - 23 Payette River Rafting Extended Trip Let’s kick off mid-summer with a long weekend paddling the exciting rapids of the Payette River in scenic Idaho. Join us as we paddle and relax in the water, all while making new friends and camping under the stars.  Trip includes leadership, equipment, transportation and most meals.  All participants must be able to swim and feel comfortable in moving water. $110
June 22 Mountain Bike the Crest Trail Day Trip Mountain bike the Wasatch Crest trail beginning at Guardsman Pass and down into Millcreek. Check out the incredible views along with a gorgeous section of trail. Strenuous uphill riding and technical downhill riding required. Participants must have trail riding experience and be in good physical condition. Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment. $35
July 3 Climb in Little Cottonwood Canyon Day Trip It’s time to get out climbing in the Wasatch as the days get warmer! Escape the heat and join us for a climbing trip in the mountains! We’re so happy that right outside our campus are some of the coolest crags to get some vertical feet in. Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment. No experience necessary. $35
July 5 - 7 Llama Packing Weekend Backpacking Trip Join us for a weekend in the beautiful Uinta Mountains with some llama friends!  The llamas will carry some of our food and supplies so we won't have to carry as much and can hike further!  Trip includes leadership, llamas, transportation, most meals and equipment. $100

July 12 Mountain Bike at Solitude Day Trip Join Outdoor Adventures as we ride through the incredible trails at Solitude Resort. Participants must be able to bike long distances, up to 10 miles a day, while gaining 1,000 feet of elevation. Bikers must be of intermediate skill level and comfortable with rapid descents. Bikers must supply their own bike shorts. Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment. $15

July 20 Mountains to Reservoir Bike Day Trip Ever wanted to bike and swim in the same day? Well you can! Follow us from Deer Valley to the Jordanelle reservoir. We'll bike in the morning and swim in the afternoon! This is a great opportunity to have a great multisport day where you can peddle your way to a fun in the sun afternoon! Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment. $35

You’ll learn new paddleboard skills, as well as test your way through a short course on the water. Spend your Thursday’s enjoying the water and good company! Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment. Open to all levels. No experience necessary. Must be comfortable in water and able to swim. August 8 End of Series BBQ with Glide Paddle Boards Day Trip Join the end of the summer paddleboard BBQ between Outdoor Adventures and Glide Paddleboards. We will enjoy the Jordanelle Reservoir with our new friends and the lasting rays of sunshine. You’ll learn new paddleboard skills, as well as test your way through a short course on the water. Spend your Thursday’s enjoying the water and good company! Trip includes leadership, transportation, meals and equipment. Open to all levels. No experience necessary. Our programs are available to all current University of Utah Students, Faculty, Staff, Campus Rec Member, and their guests. These trips are not open to the General Public, unless they qualify as a guest.

Call us at 801-581-8516 and pay the deposit with a credit card over the phone, or come to see us during our office hours within the Student Life Center.

Cooperative Adventure trips are planned and coordinated by Outdoor Adventures volunteer trip leaders. Trip costs are shared equally by all participants. All group planning, leadership and risks are shared by all participants equally.  Because Outdoor Adventures trips are exciting, physically demanding, and take place in an environment over which we have no control, they can be potentially dangerous. As a participant on a Cooperative Adventure Trip, you must personally accept these conditions and assume full responsibility for your own safety and well-being. Trip size is limited, and registration plus payment is on a first come, first served basis. A non-refundable deposit is required when you sign-up to secure a spot for you. Each multi-day trip has a pre-trip meeting, and your attendance is strongly recommended.

University of Utah policies prohibit alcohol, controlled substances, and firearms. These items are not permitted on any OA Adventure. Participants are not required to have health insurance, but it is strongly encouraged.
