Rental Policy

Currently enrolled University of Utah students and faculty and staff with current Campus Recreation Services membership with a UCard are eligible to rent equipment and receive a 25% discount from the published rates. You must present your valid UCard in order to receive the discounted rate. Please remember to bring your University ID when you reserve or check out equipment.

Non-Members may rent equipment with a Drivers License and must pay with a credit card.

Reservation Policy

Equipment may be reserved beginning Monday of the week of checkout by paying the full rental fee.

Boat reservations for any time during the river running season may be made beginning on the last Monday of March. To reserve boats or bikes, two days rental fee must be paid. The balance is due one week prior to equipment pickup.

Reservations are possible only for rental periods of two days or longer.
Reservations for one day are not possible.

Group Reservation Requests:

In order to make a reservation for a large group (more than ten of any one item, e.g. 10+ pair of skis, or 10+ sleeping bags and pads), you must contact an OA Manager at least two weeks prior to your scheduled pickup date. OA Managers can be found here: Contact Us.

Cancellation Policy

Equipment canceled the day of pickup will result in a 50% shop rental credit only. Other canceled reservations are subject to a 10% cancellation fee, or a renter may opt for a 100% shop credit for future rental instead of the 90% refund. Boats and bikes have a more specific cancellation policy. See the supplemental contract for details.

Return Policy

All equipment is due by one hour before closing time on the return date. Equipment returned late will be charged a $3.00 service fee plus the additional day or days rental fee for each day late for each item.

Equipment returned soiled or damaged will be assessed a cleaning and/or damage fee. It is the responsibility of the renter to check the condition of the equipment at the time of checkout.

Rental Period Definitions: 

One Day: Any rental where the equipment is out only one night or returned the same day as pickup.

Weekend: Any rental where the equipment is out 2 or 3 consecutive nights. Example: Friday to Sunday, Friday to Monday, or Thursday to Sunday.

Additional Day: Each night the equipment is kept out after the first 3 consecutive nights counts as an additional day.

Complimentary Days: Each night the equipment is out of OA’s possession counts as one rental night. In the event OA is closed 2 or more consecutive days, one day will be complimentary and not charged for. If OA is only closed one day (such as Memorial Day), a complimentary day is not counted.
